NEST
Tables, speaker ball, sound recording, model caravan, photograph, found photo, light, model chairs
A model caravan is perched on a small table. From inside the caravan a light glows revealing a found snapshot of an unknown man in his trunks walking from a caravan site beside the sea on a summer’s day. On the wall behind the caravan hangs a large photograph of a large dead tree in a park, it is winter with snow on the ground. Outside the caravan are two miniature empty chairs. On top of the third table sits a speaker ball from which sounds of the park can be heard. Birdsong, dogs walking, and people talking. Snatches of a song can be heard from a radio. The song is from Music in a Doll’s house from 1968 by Family, Wintertime. Nest is a micro world where the seasons speed round. In what seems like no time and also a very long time, children have grown up and left home and the seasons change. Only the caravan remains the same, its inhabitants grow older it is home for a while longer.
